Visit the official Great Southern Railway Web site (see Resources below). Click 'Indian Pacific' to book train tickets from Perth to Adelaide.
Choose which of the two service levels you want to book. Under 'Compare Service Levels,' you can find descriptions and prices for the two levels, Red Kangaroo and Gold Kangaroo. Train tickets are moderately expensive.
Go to the 'Bookings' page when you're ready to purchase your tickets. Although the Web is quicker and easier, telephone assistance is also available at the sales office, within Australia at 13 21 47, or internationally at +011 61 8 8213 4592.
Decide whether you want to travel through from Perth to Adelaide or stop and enjoy some of the surrounding scenery. The train stops at Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie between Perth and Adelaide, and expeditions are available for the adventurers.
Try to get to the station at least one hour before your train leaves. You'll need to be at the East Perth Rail Terminal on the West Parade (off Zebina Street).
Bring what you'll need, based on the class you booked. If you booked a Red Kangaroo ticket, remember to bring money for food and drinks and a pillow and blanket for sleeping.
Remember your camera. Indigenous Australian wildlife such as kangaroos and koalas are visible from the train.
