Number of Islands in the Caribbean

The Caribbean Sea contains over 7,000 islands, islets, cays, and reefs, forming the second-largest archipelago in the world (after the Malay Archipelago). They are grouped into the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico), Lesser Antilles (volcanic and coral arcs), and the Bahamas/Turks & Caicos (Lucayan Archipelago). Only about 2% are inhabited.
