Puerto Rico did not write their own constitution. The current Constitution of Puerto Rico was drafted in 1950 by a commission established by the United States Congress. The constitution was approved by the people of Puerto Rico in a referendum held on July 25, 1952, and it went into effect on July 25, 1952.
