Was there ever a Palestinian state?

No, there has never been an independent Palestinian state in history. The region of Palestine has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years, but it has been under the control of various empires and states throughout its history. In the early 20th century, Palestine was part of the Ottoman Empire, but it was defeated in World War I and the region came under British control. In 1922, the League of Nations approved a British mandate to administer Palestine, which lasted until 1948. During this period, the British government issued a White Paper that called for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine, which led to conflict with the local Arab population. In 1947, the United Nations General Assembly approved a plan to partition Palestine into two states, one for Jews and one for Arabs. However, the resolution was rejected by the Arab League, and in 1948, the State of Israel was declared. The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) was established in 1994 as a result of the Oslo Accords, and it currently exercises limited self-governance in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. However, the PNA is not recognized as an independent state by most countries, and the Palestinian people continue to strive for full sovereignty and statehood.
