What is the crater dimensions of mount pelee martinique?
Mount Pelée on the island of Martinique in the Lesser Antilles has a crater with dimensions of approximately 1.2 km (0.75 mi) in diameter and 200 m (660 ft) in depth. The crater was formed by a series of eruptions that occurred between 1851 and 1932. The most devastating eruption took place on May 8, 1902, when the volcano erupted with tremendous force, destroying the city of Saint-Pierre and killing an estimated 30,000 people. The eruption created a pyroclastic flow, or a fast-moving cloud of hot ash and gas, which reached speeds of up to 670 km/h (420 mph) and temperatures of up to 1,000 °C (1,830 °F). The flow engulfed Saint-Pierre and its inhabitants, leaving only a few survivors.
