The Gran Bahia Principe Hotel in Jamaica is located on the north coast of the island, in the middle of Runaway Bay. It is located in a safe area about a half hour away from the city of Ocho Rios. The climate is tropical, humid and hot.
The biggest complaint reviewers have about the location is the hour long drive from Montego Bay Airport. The resort itself is also very large and requires a lot of walking to get around.
The Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica has a wide variety of facilities including six bars (including poolside and karaoke bars), three interlinked pools, a reserved nudist section of the beach, a wedding pavilion, an amphitheater for entertainment and shows, a spa, a gym and various social and meeting rooms.
There are 680 rooms at the Gran Bahia Principe Hotel in Jamaica. All rooms come standard with two Queen-sized beds or one King-sized bed, air conditioning, a full bath including a massage bathtub and separate shower, hair dryer, mirror, direct-dial telephone, satellite TV, mini-bar, safe and balcony. Non-smoking rooms are available upon request.
While there are almost 700 rooms, because of the popularity of the hotel which is often completely booked, changing rooms once you are checked in can be difficult, but is not impossible.
There are four themed restaurants inside the Bahia Principe resort in Jamaica. There is the Garden Grill restaurant, specializing in grilled meats, Mikado, a Japanese restaurant, the Dolce Vita Restaurant, serving Italian cuisine, and the Don Pablo Restaurant, a modernist restaurant that serves interesting and experimental recipes. Additionally, a buffet-style restaurant provides guests a wide variety of international dishes.
Next to the beaches and nearby natural parks, there are three 18-hole golf courses within a half hour of the hotel and numerous tennis courts on the property. Guests can also take free SCUBA lessons and windsurf, snorkel, sail and kayak for free through the resort.
