What does the Tahitian flag mean?

The Tahitian flag is comprised of three horizontal stripes of equal width. The top stripe is red, the middle stripe is white and the bottom stripe is red.

There are two predominant explanations as to what is symbolized in the Tahitian flag.

1.

- Red: Blood spilled during wars that the Tahitian people have survived.

- White: Purity, integrity and peace.

2.

- Red: Red feathers or the red sky at sunset.

- White: White feathers.
