Exotic Caribbean Cruises

Gone are the days where every Caribbean cruise destination was an island. Cruise lines have added exotic ports of call to their Caribbean cruises to offer more adventurous activities ashore. These new itineraries feature stops in such places as Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and Belize.
  1. Belize

    • Scuba diving, cave tubing and excursions to the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, Cahal Pech and Altun Ha are some of the adventures that await you when going ashore in Belize. Carnival Cruise Lines offers a five-port, seven-day itinerary on its ships Glory and Valor that depart Miami, Florida, with stops in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, Isla Roatan, Cozumel and Belize. In the months of December and January, Seabourn offers 14-day cruises aboard the Spirit, which departs from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with ports of call in Belize, Costa Rica and Panama.

    Guatemala

    • Step ashore in Guatemala and explore this country's colonial history and the pre-Columbian ruins of Tikal or the lesser known ruins of Quirigua Archaeological Park. Holland America has a variety of 10- to 28-day Panama Canal cruises with Guatemala as a port of call. Cruises depart from home ports that include Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles and Seattle. Norwegian Cruise Lines has a seven-night cruise departing from New Orleans with ports that include Cozumel, Belize and Santo Tomas de Castilla, Guatemala.

    • When going ashore in Costa Rica, you'll have the option of exploring the rainforest, getting a close-up view of an active volcano or kayaking the rushing waters of the Reventazon River on an eco-adventure.
