When did SS Atlantic Empress happen?

The collision and sinking of the supertankers Atlantic Empress and Aegean Captain occurred in the Caribbean on July 19, 1979. The accident is regarded as one of the world's worst oil spills ever, with an estimated discharge of 287,000 tons of light crude oil. The incident happened northeast of Trinidad and Tobago, just outside Venezuelan waters, and claimed the lives of 26 sailors.
