How many people know about coral reefs?

According to a 2018 study published in the journal "Frontiers in Marine Science", the global awareness of coral reefs is relatively high, with an average of 78% of people surveyed across 10 countries (Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States) being able to correctly identify coral reefs as marine ecosystems. However, there is variation among countries, with some countries like Australia and the United States showing higher awareness levels (89% and 85% respectively) compared to countries like China and India (65% and 66% respectively). Additionally, awareness of coral reefs tends to be higher in coastal areas and among younger individuals.
