Three Rights Cuba Granted the U.S. Under the Platt Amendment

Under the 1901 Platt Amendment, Cuba agreed to:

1. Sell or lease land for U.S. coaling/naval stations.
2. Allow U.S. intervention to preserve Cuban independence and a government protecting life, property, liberty.
3. Permit U.S. naval/coaling stations on specified Cuban islands.
