What is Costa land like?

Costa Rica is characterized by a variety of landforms. There are some mountains and volcanoes which run from northwest to southeast and two coasts with lowlands

• Lowlands in Caribbean: Caribbean region in northeast is coastal lowland with many banana plantations.

• Volcanic mountain Range: There is volcanic cordillera mountain range with more than hundred volcanic formations which is located from Guanacaste in northwest corner till Talamancan range along Panama’s border region. Out of more than hundred, only thirty seven volcanoes are currently active. Costa Rica’s highest peak Chiripo Grande (also known as Mount Chirripó) of height twelve five three eight feet lies in Talamanca range. Central Valley Region

• Central Valley Region: There is valley of fertile agricultural region surrounded by mountain ranges known as Valle Central meaning Central Valley is most populous region along with some important cities including capital.

• Meseta Central: Meseta is Spanish word derived from French plateau; the name signifies plateaus and mountains region between volcanoes to both the sides; most of the coffee in exported are from this place and known for cattle raising as well.

• North and South Pacific Lowlands: Area along coastline to Pacific Ocean to central part known as Nicoya Peninsular has dry forests. Along Costa Rica border near Gulf of Panama along south it consists wetlands which include mangrove swamps. Costa Rica has about sixty two protected zones or conservation zones which amount thirteen percent area covering. More than one fourth portion lies on Atlantic side. National parks, forest reserves, private preserves comprise one third area under this protection.
