Why is the nickname Grand Canyon State used for Arizona?

The canyon is over 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and attains a depth of over 1 mile. The Grand Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. Due to its significance and iconic status, the Grand Canyon has become synonymous with Arizona, leading to the state being nicknamed the Grand Canyon State.
