Buses, in particular those traveling for long distances, typically have air conditioning which can make your trip considerably more comfortable. If you're traveling long distances, the bus can cost about $50, but the local buses, which have the distinct disadvantage of being unreliable cost considerably less.
Take the TrainTrains also run across the country, but aren't comfortable or as reliable as the cross-country buses, and they typically cost about the same amount. The cars have only seats, there are no beds or restaurants and schedules are not heavily relied upon.
