Where did the first complex societies in Americas begin?

The Olmec Civilization

The Olmec civilization is regarded as the earliest complex society in the Americas. It flourished in the southern part of Mexico, in the states of Veracruz and Tabasco, from around 1200 to 400 BCE.

The Olmecs developed distinct art, architecture, and ritual practices that would influence later Mesoamerican civilizations. They were also skilled engineers, capable of constructing monumental stone sculptures, such as the colossal heads at San Lorenzo and La Venta.

The Olmecs had a significant impact on the development of Mesoamerica, contributing to the rise of later civilizations, such as the Maya, Zapotec, and Teotihuacan.
