Central American Countries with Only One Ocean Coastline

Two Nations, One Coast Each

Of Central America's seven countries, two have coastlines on only one ocean:

El Salvador — Pacific Only

  • Coastline: ~307 km on Pacific Ocean
  • No Caribbean/Atlantic access
  • Geography: Smallest Central American country, entirely on Pacific side of continental divide

Honduras — Primarily Caribbean, Tiny Pacific Access

  • Caribbean Coast: ~820 km (main coastline with Bay Islands)
  • Pacific Coast: Only ~124 km at Gulf of Fonseca (shared with El Salvador, Nicaragua)
  • Note: Technically touches both, but Pacific access is minimal and functionally limited

The Other Five (Dual Coast)

  • Guatemala (Pacific & Caribbean)
  • Nicaragua (Pacific & Caribbean)
  • Costa Rica (Pacific & Caribbean)
  • Panama (Pacific & Caribbean)
  • Belize (Caribbean only — but often grouped differently)

Clarification: Belize has only Caribbean coast. If defining Central America as 7 countries (excluding Belize sometimes), then El Salvador is the only single-ocean nation. Honduras has minimal Pacific access. Definitions vary by geographic vs. political criteria.
