How many Hungarians are there?

The estimated number of Hungarians in the world today is around 14.5 million. As of 2011, more than 10 million ethnic Hungarians live in Hungary, and nearly 3 million live in neighboring countries like Romania, Slovakia, Serbia, and Ukraine, where Hungarians form significant minorities. Overseas Hungarians account for some 1.2 million people, making them the second largest diaspora in Europe after the Irish diaspora. Most of the Hungarian communities abroad are primarily concentrated in the Americas (particularly in the United States, Canada, and Brazil) and Western Europe (particularly Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and France).
