Disney Camping Rules

Located on 750 lush, wooded acres, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is the only place to experience camping with all of Disney's special touches. Camp out in comfort at a fully equipped campsite, or rent a spacious cabin for a homier feel. At Fort Wilderness, there are plenty of recreational activities, excellent dining and entertainment, transportation throughout Disney World Resort and much more.
  1. Campsite Occupancy Limits

    • Each campsite may accommodate a maximum of 10 people. Vehicles are restricted to one passenger vehicle (car or truck) and one recreational vehicle (RV or camper) per site. If needed, additional parking is available in the main parking lot. There is no limit to how many tents occupy a campsite, but as of 2010, a charge of $2 will be charged for each adult guest if more than 2 adults occupy one site. Larger groups of 20 campers or more must reserve a tents-only Creekside Meadow campsite.

    Smoking and Alcohol

    • Guests are permitted to smoke at their campsite or on the porch of their cabin. There are also designated outdoor smoking sites in various public areas. Smoking is prohibited indoors. There are no alcohol restrictions other than those established by U.S. and Florida laws.

    Check-In and Check-Out

    • Guests must check in at the Reception Outpost, which features several drive-through windows for quick service. Check-in time is at 1:00 p.m., and guests must be checked out by 11:00 a.m.

    Campfires

    • Although campfires were prohibited in the past, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort now allows campers to bring their own contained campfire units, most commonly known as fire pits or outdoor fireplaces. Each unit must have a mesh top unless the campsite is located next to the creek. Creekside campsites may only contain campfire units with a solid metal top. This prevents embers from spreading among the abundant trees and wildlife at this location. There is also a nightly community campfire and gathering, Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Sing-Along, complete with roasted marshmallows and followed by a classic Disney movie.

    Vehicle Rentals

    • Electric golf carts and bicycles may be rented to explore the expansive campgrounds. Guests are also permitted to bring along their own bicycles. Canoes, peddle boats and kayaks are available to rent as well, and life jackets must be worn at all times.

    Pets

    • Disney's Fort Wilderness is the only pet-friendly resort on Walt Disney World property. There are designated sites for guests with pets for an additional charge of $5 per day. Keep in mind, however, that guests are encouraged to kennel their pets while at the parks since it is against Fort Wilderness rules to leave pets in a vehicle or tent without air-conditioning. Pets will enjoy playing at Waggin' Trails Dog Park, where they are free to run off-leash. Owners are expected to clean up after their pet in all areas.
