Though there are more than 20 places to stay throughout Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., the Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is the only place to camp. Set on more than 700 wooded acres, the Fort Wilderness Resort offers quiet trails and amenities like the Meadow Trading Post and Pioneer Hill. The campground opened in 1971 and offers guests great proximity to the Magic Kingdom.
Disney's Fort Wilderness has 799 campsites available. There are four types: sites for tents/pop-ups, sites with full hook-ups, sites with preferred hook-ups and premium campsites. Campsites vary in length, from 25 to 65 feet, and can accommodate up to 10 people. All sites come equipped with charcoal grill, table, water, cable television and electrical hook-ups. All also have sewer hook-ups except the tent sites. High-speed Internet is available for a fee. There are also comfort stations throughout the campground equipped with bathrooms, showers, ice and laundry machines. Pet-friendly campsites are available as well.
The Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness also has a restaurant, two dinner shows and snack bars on site. There are also stores where you can buy basic groceries or rent movies. If you want some adult time, childcare and babysitting services are also available. You can access the theme parks via bus, boat or walking paths. All transportation is complimentary for guests. You will also receive complimentary transportation to and from Orlando's airport.
There is plenty do within the campground itself. Mickey's Backyard BBQ at The Fort Wilderness Pavilion, is a hoedown with Disney characters, music and dancing. Or visit the Circle-D Ranch, and watch a blacksmith attach horseshoes to the horses used for the trolleys on Main Street, U.S.A. There are also carriage and pony rides available. If you like being out on the water, you can rent SeaRaycers and pontoon boats. Fishing trips are also available. At the Meadow Recreation Area, a nightly Chip 'n' Dale "Sing-a-Long" and marshmallow roast is held. Afterward, you and your family can watch a classic Disney film.
