When did the UK join Europe?

The United Kingdom has never officially joined the European Union (EU). The UK joined the European Economic Community (EEC) on 1 January 1973, which later became the EU in 1993. However, the UK voted to leave the EU in a referendum in 2016, and formally left the EU on 31 January 2020.
