Tobacco Limits When Traveling Between EU Countries

For personal use only, the EU guide limits (Directive 2008/118/EC) are:

• Cigarettes: 800
• Cigarillos: 400 (max 3g each)
• Cigars: 200
• Smoking tobacco: 1 kg

Important Notes

• These are guide levels; member states may set lower limits (but not higher) for intra-EU travel.
• Must be for personal use—no commercial intent.
• Carry proof of purchase if near limits.
• Rules differ for entering EU from non-EU countries (lower limits: 200 cigarettes, etc.).
