European countries on the other hand had additional motives including:
- Colonization: Many European countries actively pursued colonial expansion in Latin America, seeking to establish colonies and expand their empires.
- Resource extraction: European powers were interested in exploiting the abundant natural resources of Latin America, such as gold, silver, sugar, and rubber, to fuel their own economic development.
- Spreading Catholicism: As most European countries were predominantly Catholic, they aimed to spread Catholicism and convert the indigenous population of Latin America to Christianity.
