The island of Capri off the Amalfi Coast of Italy is one of the most breathtaking places in the world. Getting to the island can be a little tricky, and depending on the timing, may take a whole day of travel. But it is always worth the effort.
Find your way to either Naples or Sorrento. These are the two largest cities in the Bay of Naples, which will serve as your launching point to get to the island of Capri. Naples has a lot of connections via high-speed train or airplane. Sorrento can be a little tougher to get to, but it's easier and cheaper to travel to Capri from there.
Once you arrive in either Sorrento or Naples, buy a hydrofoil boat ticket to Capri. There are a variety of boat companies that deploy high-speed boats across the Bay of Naples to different destinations. Most of these companies will have a ride to Capri about every two hours. From Naples, the boat ride takes about an hour; from Sorrento, it takes about a half-hour.
Once you arrive in Capri, find a tour boat to take you to other coastal areas of the island. The hydrofoil boats will drop you off in the town of Marina Grande, the main transportation hub of Capri. From here, you can catch a tour boat to any other destination on the island.
If you want to get to the actual city of Capri, take the cable car (or "funicolare") up to the city. The ride costs only a few euros and takes about five minutes.
From the city of Capri, walk down to Marina Piccola to enjoy a day on the beach. It will be about a 30-minute walk down to the coast. On the way, you will get spectacular views of the island as well as a view of some of the wonderful houses and villas.
