Maranello is a small, pastoral commune about 30 miles outside Bologna that may not have caught your attention -- unless you happen to be a fan of Ferraris. Since the 1940s, the northern Italian city's primary claim to fame has been the Ferrari factory and its accompanying museum. For the Ferrari enthusiast, or anyone who wants to explore Italy, Maranello is accessible from Bologna through public transportation or by car.
At the Bologna Centrale Railway Station, board the suburban railway service to Vignola, about 9 miles outside Maranello. The trip takes about an hour. At the Vignola bus station on Via Montanara, the extra-urban line 640 heading toward Sassuolo will take you to Maranello. The stop in Maranello is approximately 20 minutes down the route.
In Bologna, get on the A1 Milan Naples motorway, heading toward Milan. Get off at the Modena Nord exit and enter Tangenziale, the ring-road, toward Abetone and Sassuolo. There will be signs to Maranello-Formigine, which you can follow to the Strada Provinciale Giardini. At the Strada Provinciale Giardini, turn right. This road will take you into Maranello. The entire trip will take about 45 minutes or more, depending on traffic.
