Travel between Scotland's two largest cities is easy to manage. Taking the train is a popular choice for getting from point A to point B in the United Kingdom, and today it is easier than ever to book travel online, by phone or in person.
Find the closest station in Edinburgh for your departure. For travel to Glasgow, you have the choice of either Edinburgh's Waverly Station or the Haymarket terminal.
Determine whether Glasgow Central or Glasgow Queen Street is a better station for your arrival. Fewer trains from Edinburgh arrive at Central Station, so this may limit your travel choices.
Familiarize yourself with the train schedules for the Edinburgh-Glasgow route by visiting the National Rail Enquiries Web site (see below) or any train station in Scotland.
To book accommodations, contact First ScotRail at 011 (+47) 0845 601 5929 or visit their Web site (see Resources, below).
Purchase your ticket with most major credit cards and reserve your seat for most trains, but you will need to have your tickets delivered to your hotel in the UK or pick them up at the station.
Purchase your tickets at Waverly Station or Haymarket Station. Both terminals have automated ticket machines and staffed ticket counters for your convenience.
Present your ticket to enter the train platform at Waverly or Haymarket. You will also find luggage trolleys to help with your bags as you find your way to your train.
Expect to spend at least 1 hour on the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Though there are some trains with fewer stops along the way, most will take between 50 minutes and an hour to arrive in Glasgow.
Step onto the platform of either of Glasgow's stations and find similar amenities to those of Edinburgh's, including luggage trolleys and staffed information desks.
