Book your Amtrak travel on one of these train lines: the Lakeshore Limited, Empire Service or the Maple Leaf Route. Choose which route based on which Buffalo train station you will be departing from--Exchange Street or Depew.
Choose the Lakeshore Limited Route only if you plan to depart from the Depew train station. This route heads east through Erie, PA and Buffalo-Depew and does not travel to the downtown Exchange Street station.
Allow time for weather delays if travelling by train in the winter. The area between Buffalo and Rochester has lake effect snow patterns, making weather unpredictable from November through April.
Plan to spend somewhat less than $50 when you book your train ticket from Buffalo to Rochester. The price is the same no matter which Buffalo station you depart from.
Book your reservations either through the online Amtrak Web site, their toll free number (800) 872-7245 or at the ticket office in the train station during normal business hours (see Resources).
Use a valid credit card or a personal check when purchasing your train ticket at the station. The station will not accept a check if it has a P.O. box listed as the address, or if it is postdated.
