Edinburgh Castle is situated on Castle Rock, an extinct volcanic mass located at the west end of the Old Town area of Edinburgh in Scotland. The castle sits between the Royal Mile and Grassmarket streets with Lothian Road stretching south. Castle Rock overlooks the Firth of Forth to the north with Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags immediately west and east respectively.
