Famous Horse Statues in Ireland

If you are a horse or art lover, you are in for a treat if you visit Ireland. If you combine your love of art with your love of horses, then you will be very excited to see that Ireland is home to three famous horse statues, all of which are delicately crafted and majestically displayed.
  1. John Byrne's Sculpture

    • In the 19th century, John Henry Foler sculpted the famous horse that was used at the Gough Memorial. However, it was significantly damaged in 1957. On September 13, 2010, John Byrne made a replica of this horse from the past. Bryne painted the horse with bronze, and the creature known as Misneach, also has a green tint so that it looks aged and historical. As of September 2010, the sculpture was at the Trinity Comprehensive School. However, shortly after, it will be moving to Main Street in Ballymum.

    Capall Mor

    • Capall Mor, which means big horse, is a statue that sits glorified atop a cliff overlooking the valleys of Ireland. It is located right off of Ireland's N22 in Killarney in County Kerry. Avid traveler and highway art lover, Ann Lane, describes the statue as a "magnificent sight." The horse stands nearly completely vertically, as it is up on its hind legs. The color of the sculpture is white. One of the most fascinating features is that the horse adorns a unicorn's horn upon its head.

    Pegasus

    • Another breathtaking sculpture adorning the streets of Ireland is the Horse Statue Pegasus at Powerscourt located in County Wicklow. His legs are lifting in the front, and his enormous wings are spread out, as though he were ready to take flight at any given moment. The creature is a silvery, bone white shade and stands out brilliantly against the backdrop of green trees surrounding the monument.
