The term "Pacific Northwest" refers to a region in North America encompassing the U.S. states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and sometimes parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Northern California, plus the Canadian province of British Columbia.
It is defined by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the Cascade Range, and a temperate rainforest climate. Mexico lies entirely to the south of this region; its northwest (Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa) is geographically and culturally distinct.
