Popocatépetl is a stratovolcano located in the states of Mexico and Puebla, in Central Mexico, and is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The name Popocatépetl is Nahuatl and it means "smoking mountain" or "sleeping woman". The volcano has been active since at least the 16th century and has erupted more than 15 times since then. The most recent eruption occurred in 2000. Popocatépetl is located about 70 km southeast of Mexico City and is a popular tourist destination.
