Where did the Aztecs come from before they settled in Mexico City?

The Aztecs originally came from Aztlán, a legendary place believed to be in northern Mexico or the southwestern United States. They migrated south in the 12th century and eventually settled in the Valley of Mexico, where they founded the city of Tenochtitlan in 1325. Tenochtitlan later became the capital of the Aztec Empire.
