Was Alamo originally built as a home for Mexican general?

The Alamo Mission in San Antonio, Texas, was not originally built as a home for a Mexican general but as a Spanish Franciscan mission in the early 18th century. It was established in 1718 as "Misión San Antonio de Valero."

The mission complex served various purposes over the years and was converted into a military fort by the Spanish army for defense against Native American raids. Eventually, it gained renown during the Texas Revolution when a small group of Texas defenders, including famous figures like James Bowie and William Barret Travis, held out against the Mexican army led by General Santa Anna in 1836.
