Daytime highs range from 80 degrees Fahrenheit to the mid-90s year-round. Nighttime lows vary from the mid-60s to the upper 70s. Brief, heavy downpours are common in late summer and early autumn. Hurricanes can be a concern in the fall. Check travel forecasts for approaching storms that may affect your visit.
Many tourists arrive and depart via the Aeropuerto International de Cancún. Airlines that serve the airport include Air Canada, Air Tran, American, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Jet Blue, Northwest, Spirit, United and US Airways. Rental cars, buses and taxis are available. If you're not familiar with the city or visiting a neighborhood not in popular tourist areas, use a taxi.
Watch out for tourist scams. Avoid offers of free car rentals, drinks or hotel rooms. If you rent a car, rent from a well-known company. Check your vehicle for problems before leaving the lot. Get out of your car at gas stations and don't let the attendant start the pump without verifying the gauge is at zero pesos. If you encounter someone on the street who is offering time shares, be wary. Their high-pressure sales tactics may leave you in deep debt. Don't leave valuables in your hotel room. Keep them with you or in a hotel safe. If you want to take a walk, stick to the hotel areas.
