1. Meryl Streep – Record 21-time Oscar-nominated actress (Sophie's Choice, The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia!), born in Summit, NJ but raised in Bernardsville; wait—actually born in Summit, NJ. Correction: Katharine Hepburn (4 Oscars) was born in Hartford, CT. Meryl Streep was born in NJ. Let's use Katharine Hepburn (Hartford).

3. Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) – Legendary author (Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court), lived in Hartford 1874–1891; wrote major works there. House is a museum.
