Lakes in Wichita, Kansas

Wichita is the largest city in the U.S. state of Kansas. Considered the "Air Capital of the World," the city is home to a number of aircraft companies. It lies on the bank of the Arkansas River and there are a plethora of waterways throughout the metropolitan area, including a number of natural lakes.
  1. Beech Lake

    • Beech Lake is located east of downtown Wichita, Kansas. It is immediately adjacent to the Wichita County and Colonel James Jabara Airport. It is 0.04 square miles in area. The lake is home to a variety of water sports, including fishing and waterskiing.

    Horseshoe Lake

    • Horseshoe Lake is located on the northwest side of Wichita Kansas, right off of Interstate 235, near the shore of the Arkansas River. It's area is approximately 0.02 miles.

    Cruiser Lake

    • Another lake in Wichita, Kansas is Cruiser Lake. It's on the south side of the city. It occupies an area of 35 acres. The lake is known for it's fishing. Local fish include catfish, large mouth bass, crappie and bluegill. They are put in the lake monthly by the Kansas Department of Parks and Wildlife.

    Lake Afton

    • Lake Afton is located on the southwest outskirts of Wichita, Kansas, about 25 miles from downtown, beyond the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. It's area is 0.3 square miles. At the site there is located Lake Afton State Park, where there are a number of recreational options for the whole family, however, due to economic downturn, a number of the onsite shops closed in early 2011.
