Lakes in Texas

Although there are approximately 100 lakes in Texas, well-known and often frequented lakes exist throughout the state, offering opportunities to boat, jet-ski, water ski, swim, fish or just enjoy the water. Whether you want to go for sports recreation or just to relax, the lakes offer opportunities for individuals and families to enjoy a fun time on the water.
  1. Highland Lakes

    • The Austin area consists of six lakes that stretch for approximately 100 miles to the northwest. The area is well known for golf, as well as recreational opportunities like water sports, swimming, sun bathing and other opportunities. Lake Buchanan is a common fishing area with striped bass and catfish. In addition to rustic cabins, the Highland Lakes area provides resorts, lake houses, and other housing opportunities.

    Lake Bridgeport

    • Lake Bridgeport is located in central, north Texas approximately 40 miles of Forth Worth north and offers boating, water skiing, swimming, picnic areas and other opportunities. Lake Bridgeport covers 13,000 acres with a depth of 85 feet. The lake is filled with species such as white bass, catfish, sunfish, and other fish.

    Lake Brownwood

    • Lake Brownwood is approximately 70 miles from Abilene and remains a popular boating and fishing area. You can have the opportunity to boat, ski, fish, and even swim throughout the year. The lake covers approximately 7,300 acres. The lake allows the opportunity to fish for bass, catfish, crappie and sunfish. In addition to camping areas and RV spaces at the lake, there is also the opportunity to rent cabins or stay at a local inn. Lake Brownwood remains a popular area for wildlife photography.

    Caddo Lake

    • The Caddo Lake lies along the Texas and Louisiana border, however, some of the area is swamp with a bayou, waterways, and channels. If taking a boat through the swamp, the state of Texas has marked the channels and maintains an abundance of waterfowl and other wildlife. Caddo Lake offers a chance to boat, hunt, fish and swim.

    Canyon Lake

    • The Canyon Lake area, located along the Guadalupe River in Texas has 80 miles of shoreline with an average depth of approximately 40 feet. Canyon Lake is located between San Antonio and Austin, Texas. The lake offers opportunities for fishing, camping, picnics, swimming, boating and scuba diving.

    Cedar Creek Lake

    • Cedar Creek Lake provides the opportunity for boating, fishing for bass or catfish, and swimming. As the fourth largest lake in Texas, the shoreline extends approximately 320 miles and is approximately 55 miles southeast of Dallas. The lake allows opportunities for housing, including bungalows, rental homes, lake houses and cabins.
