Chinese Restaurants on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast is a region lying north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is known for its natural beauty and the fact that the only way to reach its various communities is either by ferry or by plane. There is no proper road access to the region despite its proximity to Vancouver. The two largest communities in the region are Gibson's Landing and Sechelt. Between these two towns, there are a total of three Chinese restaurants offering menus typical of Chinese restaurants in North America at large.
  1. The Bayview Szechuan Restaurant in Gibson's Landing

    • Located at 418 Marine Drive overlooking Gibson's Landing's waterfront with views of Keats Island to the south, The Bayview Szechuan Restaurant is the only Chinese restaurant in Gibson's Landing. It offers a diverse menu consisting of all of the standard favorites, as well as a child's menu and Western-style options such as fish and chips. This restaurant also has a buffet option for both lunch and dinner. It is easily accessible to anyone staying in one of Gibson's Landing's few hotels and hostels.

The Bayview Szechuan Restaurant in Sechelt

    • Located at 5559 Wharf Road in downtown Sechelt, the Bayview Szechuan Restaurant is one of two restaurants with this name in the region, the other being in Gibson's Landing. This restaurant offers dine-in and take-out menus with all of the standard favorites of Chinese cuisine, including sweet and sour pork and lemon chicken. The take-out menu offers dozens of options at reasonable prices, including a child's menu and options for those who prefer Western-style food.

The Golden City Restaurant in Sechelt

    • Located at the corner of Highway 101 and Wharf Road, the Golden City Restaurant is also located in Sechelt's downtown core. This restaurant is popular among locals for its generous Sunday buffet, as well as its a la carte and take-out menus. It is known for its pleasant atmosphere and staff, as well as the quality of their food. Of the three Chinese restaurants in the region, The Golden City is the most expensive, but also the highest quality. It is located within walking distance of Sechelt's hotels and hostels.

The Chinese People in British Columbia

    • The cities of Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada have two of the oldest Chinatowns in North America. Both over a century old, it was from these Chinatowns that Chinese-Canadians grew to become an important presence in British Columbia, bringing their culture and dining traditions to every corner of the province. Even an area as remote and difficult to access as the Sunshine Coast has a few Chinese restaurants.
