October Carnivals Near Dallas

Dallas, Texas's third-largest city, hosts a number of events -- particularly in the fall -- thanks to its large metropolitan area and steady economic growth. Among the most noteworthy celebrations is the Texas State Fair, which happens in September and October, but several other carnivals and festivals are also held in October.
  1. State Fair of Texas

    • This 125-year-old event takes place in Dallas's Fair Park from the end of September until the end of October. Bringing in over two million visitors, the fair includes a midway, garden show, auto show, live music events, livestock auction as well as a variety of food vendors offering such items as deep fried butter and fried beer.

    Texas State Veggie Fair

    • For a decidedly different Texas experience, this one-day White Rock Lake festival celebrates the vegan lifestyle with a roster of speakers, carnival games, music and food vendors (such as corn-(not) dogs). The free event also includes a Vegan Fried Foods Competition for local chefs.

    Fright Fest

    • Located a 30 minute's drive from Dallas in Arlington, Six Flags Over Texas has a Halloween festival every weekend in October. The event includes live shows, haunted houses, mazes and wandering costumed ghosts and ghouls.

    International Bar-B-Que Cookoff

    • Located in Traders Village in Grand Prarie, a 30-minute's drive from Dallas, this festival is over 25 years old and is one of Texas's largest barbecue events. The free, two-day event features over 100 barbecue chefs competing for prize money. The Backyarder Chicken category gives newbies an intro into the barbecue competition world.
