Family Attractions at MGM Las Vegas

Las Vegas is primarily known for the gambling and adult entertainment, but there are a few family friendly attractions located at the MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. Guests can enjoy time away from the casino and tour the hotels lion habitat, the CBS Television City Research Center or spend the day at the water park-like pool. All are family friendly and free to enjoy.
  1. The Lion Habitat

    • The Lion Habitat at the MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino is home to the mascot of MGM and is open daily from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Guests can watch the kings of the jungle as they eat sleep and play in habitat located right inside the hotel. In between sleeping 18 to 20 hours a day the lions are fed at 11:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in an area where guests can see.When the lions are not on display they are moved to the 8.5-acre ranch located 12 miles from the hotel. There are a total of 31 lions at the MGM ranch, which are rotated through the exhibit habitat, keeping only a few lions on display at a time.Presentations are offered throughout the day by the lion trainers, however, there is no schedule of activities because presentations are only offered depending upon the activity level and willingness of the lions.There is a gift shop at the end of habitat walking path offering guests a chance to purchase lion memorabilia, including magnets, T-shirts, stuffed animals, postcards and books.

    Pool Complex

    • Spend a lazy afternoon in the warm Las Vegas sun on the 1,000 foot lazy river which circles the 27,000 square foot pool complex with five pools, including three Jacuzzis and waterfalls. The pool area is large enough to spend an entire day at soaking up the sun, floating in the lazy river, sipping on some margarita's (non-alcoholic or alcoholic) or relaxing in the water. Those wishing to visit the pool complex at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino must be registered guests of the hotel.

    CBS Television City Research Center

    • Families can enjoy a tour of the CBS Television City Research Center where they will learn what it feels like to be an executive for a major network as they decide which shoes will be put on air. The research center is just the place to go to give an opinion about which shows will survive and which ones will never make it to television.Visitors will be able to watch pilots of new television series or have a chance to see some not-yet-aired favorites. Screenings are for shows proposed to be aired on CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon and other Viacom networks. After the screening guests will be asked to complete a 15 minute survey about the show and their experience.The CBS Television City Research Center is open daily from 10 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. with one hour screenings running about every half-hour. Tickets can be picked up for screenings near the pool or at the entrance to the MGM Grand's parking garage. Please note that only children 10 years of age and older are allowed in the attraction with a parent.
