Davy Crockett, a U.S. congressman originally from Tennessee, famously said: "You may all go to hell, and I will go the Texas." He kept his promise and fought with Texas and died in the battle of the Alamo in 1936. In 1837, Elizabeth Crockett was entitled to 1,280 acres of land in Acton, Texas, yet the notice came 17 years late, and Mrs. Crockett didn't leave Tennessee for Texas until 1853. She lived in Texas until her death in 1860. The monument of Elizabeth Crockett was erected in 1911 and is located only a few miles from Granbury. A marble slab marks the site of the 640 acres where Elizabeth Crockett lived from 1854 to 1860. In 1949, Elizabeth Crockett's 12-by-12 burial plot became a state park and thereby the smallest state park in Texas.
