Magnolia, Texas, is a small town located about 45 miles northwest of Houston with a population of about 1,200 people. The greater Magnolia area is about 12 square miles offering various family-friendly attractions year-round. A main goal of Magnolia, according to the town website, is to maintain its small-town charm and atmosphere amid its big-city neighbors.
July 4, 2010, marked the official opening of Unity Park. The park sits on 30 acres off of Nicholas Sawmill Road. Bird-watching enthusiasts have reported seeing several species throughout the park. The park also boasts a volleyball court, skate park, amphitheater, walking trails and horseshoe pit. The park's shaded pavilion can accommodate up to 500 people. Also, the pavilion and amphitheater can be rented for private events.
Magnolia's Texas Opry is a family-oriented restaurant that promises an evening of a home-cooked meal and entertainment. The Opry's menu features classic southern fare such as cornbread, pot roast and brisket. Dinner entertainment features live music, comedy acts and dancers. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Reservations can be made in advance or tickets can be purchased at the door.
The Magnolia Hometown Christmas Festival occurs December 10-12. Festivities include ice skating, a chili cook-off, caroling and live music. Children can also plan to visit Santa, decorate cookies and watch the parade through downtown Magnolia.
The High Meadow Ranch Golf Club consists of two six-hole loops. This public course does not require membership or the purchase of golfing packages. Instead, golfers may pay the day they plan to use the course. In addition, golf professionals are available to provide lessons. High Meadow Ranch golf club also features a 3,000-square-foot pavilion that is available for private rental.
