The festival started as a way to celebrate the soldiers fighting in the battle of San Jacinto. As the years went by, the festival grew to encompass celebrating all of the cultures present in San Antonio, including Hispanic and Native American heritages. All of the events at the festival are hosted by non-profit organizations.
