San Antonio is home to the 4.2-acre Alamo, the most famous of five Catholic missions established in San Antonio in the 18th century. This mission was the home to missionaries for almost 70 years.
Visitors can explore the Alamo for free, as well as the other missions, and learn about the infamous Battle of the Alamo and how it shaped the future of Texas.

Visitors to the Corpus Christi area will want to take time out of their day to see the Art Museum of South Texas, where they can enjoy both the permanent and temporary exhibits found at the museum. The museum was built in 1972 and was expanded in 2006. There are more than 1,300 works of art on display. Visitors can see various pieces of artwork including sculptures, paintings, prints and collages. The museum's website has more information about individual collections on exhibit, including the Dorothy Hood collection containing works by the Texas-born modernist, as well as current temporary exhibits.
