Christmas Attractions in Texas

The holiday season means Christmas lights, parades and plenty of sweets. Texas does not disappoint and visitors can see everything the season has to offer, from lighted displays, to holiday-themed parades, to Santa himself. Several cities across Texas host huge Christmas attractions throughout the holiday season that are fit for the whole family.

  1. Santa Land

    • Santa Land in Lindale boasts over 2.5 million lights on 24 acres of land. Visitors can drive through the lighted display in their own vehicles or take a trailer ride. There are several lighted displays featuring holiday, religious and Texas themes along the driving path. After seeing the display, visitors can stop at the gift shop for holiday-themed food and beverages such as gingerbread men and warm apple cider. Santa Land is open from November to January each year. Lindale is located just north of Tyler, Texas, 90 miles east of Dallas.

    Prairie Lights

    • Prairie Lights in Grand Prairie features both a drive-through lighted display and an outdoor walking area. During the drive-through display, visitors will see over 4 million lights stretching across two miles of roadway. Halfway through the tour, visitors can stop at Santa’s Village to have their pictures taken with Santa and purchase concession foods. A walking tour starts behind Santa’s Village. Prairie Lights also features a choreographed light show set to music, which visitors can see for an additional fee. Prairie Lights runs from Thanksgiving through December each year. Grand Prairie is located between Dallas and Forth Worth.

    Whistle Stop Christmas

    • Whistle Stop Christmas, held in Cleburne, hosts a different holiday-themed event each night. Events include a lighting ceremony in Hulen Park featuring over 3.5 million lights. Children can have breakfast with Santa and families can attend live performances of famous holiday plays such as “A Christmas Carol” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Whistle Stop Christmas runs in downtown Cleburne from Thanksgiving through December each year. Cleburne is located just south of Fort Worth.

    Christmas in Historic Montgomery

    • Christmas in Historic Montgomery is a full day of holiday-themed events sponsored by the Montgomery Historical Society on the second Saturday in December. During the day, families can attend the holiday parade, the arts and crafts fair and the cookie walk. Children can drop their letters to Santa off at Santa’s Post Office inside the McCall Law Office. Christmas in Historic Montgomery also includes a candle-lit tour of historic downtown homes decorated for the holiday season. Montgomery is located 50 miles northwest of Houston.
