Liberty Island is located in Lower New York Harbor, a little over a mile from Lower Manhattan. Liberty Island belongs to both New York and New Jersey.
Statue Cruises, an authorized concessionaire of the U.S. National Park Service, has ferry service from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Ferries from New York make stops at Liberty Island and Ellis Island.
Traveling time between the Battery Park dock in New York and the Statue of Liberty takes less than 20 minutes. Waiting time for ferry services may take up to several hours during peak season, from June to September.
Visitors undergo security screening before boarding ferries and entering the monument. All weapons are prohibited on the islands and ferries, including: firearms, explosives or flammables, sharp objects (including tools), pepper spray and Mace.
There is no entrance fee for Liberty Island. Visitors must make reservation and pay for ferry tickets. An additional fee applies for those who want to go up to the Statue of Liberty's crown.
