The Brooklyn Heights Promenade is located across the river in the historic neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights. Located right off of Montague Street, the Promenade extends for one third of a mile and offers a view of downtown Manhattan. Often used as the destination for first dates, the Promenade is a popular romantic spot, both during day and night.
If you find yourself going to Staten Island on the bustling ferry, make sure and take a look behind you at the skyline. Not only will you see downtown Manhattan, but you'll get a great view of Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty, as well. The 20 minute boat ride is free and makes frequent trips, so if you have time, hop aboard the ferry.
Liberty State Park is just off New York Harbor, over in New Jersey. The park's 1000 acres are not just a sightseeing venue; it offers picnic locations, a playground and Liberty Science Theater, a museum.
Though you won't be able to get a clear sight of the skyline from within Manhattan, a few places offer a breathtaking view of the landmarks close up. The Empire State Building's Observation Deck shows visitors a sweeping view of both uptown and downtown Manhattan, with the addition of binoculars for enhanced viewing. Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center's roof, also provides observation opportunities, including that of nearby Central Park.
