1. Susquehanna and Juniata Rivers: This route followed the Susquehanna River north to Sunbury, Pennsylvania, then turned west and followed the Juniata River to Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. From there, the route crossed the Allegheny Mountains and continued to Pittsburgh.
2. Forbes Road: This route was built by General John Forbes in 1758 during the French and Indian War. It started at Fort Loudoun in Winchester, Virginia, and followed the Potomac River to Cumberland, Maryland. From there, it crossed the Allegheny Mountains and continued to Ligonier, Pennsylvania, and then to Pittsburgh.
