Explanation: The Rocky Mountains are a major mountain range in western North America. The Rocky Mountains stretch more than 4,800 km (3,000 miles) from the northernmost part of British Columbia in Canada to New Mexico in the United States. The range is about 1,600 km (1,000 miles) wide at its widest point and covers an area of approximately 2.4 million km² (930,000 sq mi). The Rocky Mountains are the highest mountain range in North America and contain some of the highest peaks in the world, including Mount Elbert (4,401 m or 14,440 ft) in Colorado, Mount Robson (3,954 m or 12,972 ft) in British Columbia, and Mount Logan (5,959 m or 19,551 ft) in Yukon.
