Do the Appalachian Mountains line up with other mountain ranges that they resemble?

The Appalachian Mountains resemble the mountain ranges in Norway and parts of Scotland, which can give the impression that they line up. All of these mountain ranges were formed during the same orogenic event, the Caledonian orogeny.
