Goose Island is an artificial island nestled in the center of the Chicago River in Illinois. Historically, the once-tiny land mass was an area where Irish immigrants made an unofficial settlement. However, by the late 1800s, the Chicago River sweep away the original Goose Island. What stands today is a footprint left by the Chicago Land Company. Throughout the 20th century, the Odgens Canal took on many names. However, now it is called Goose Island, most likely after flocks of wild geese that inhabit the island.
